In response to Covid-19, Grow It Forward established an Emergency Food Bank at Northern Cold Storage, where we accept bulk produce, meat, and dairy products provided by the Hunger Relief Federation of Wisconsin, USDA Coronavirus Food Assistance Program, and Wisconsin Dairy Recovery Program.
Grow It Forward then redistributes these food resources to partnering food pantries, schools, nonprofits, and community meal sites that put food into the hands of our neighbors who need it most.
Pop-Up Food Pantry
Grow It Forward's Pop-Up Food Pantry program, founded in April 2020, serves individuals and families in need in an effort to supplement other hunger-relief agencies in that area.
Through creative partnerships and the support of our donors, our food boxes feature fresh, locally-sourced produce, milk, eggs, and whole grains. Food boxes highlight a seasonal vegetable—our Food of the Month—and give examples on cooking it with food demos and recipes.
Our food boxes provides a three-day supply of food, per pop-up event, to individuals and families in our community. Food is either distributed to clients in pre-packed boxes or through a farmers market-style distribution where clients choose to take what they need.
Grow It Forward's Pop-Up Food Program expands the capacity of our network to make food more accessible in under-served communities where people with limited financial resources may not be able to access food through traditional grocery stores or other food panties. This allows us to provide rescued food, local farmer's products, and grocery items-including meat, produce and baked goods - to people more quickly and flexibly.
